Sarti Winery Descriptions
Banfi
Castello Banfi is, without doubt, the most important producer of Montalcino and Brunello in particular. Their extensive estate has been divided into individual vineyards to ensure optimum result from their vines. The wines, carefully crafted in the winery, are highly esteemed and regularly receive international accolades.
Terre da Vino
This winery has access to an extensive range of vineyards from a wide variety of Piemonte’s producing districts. They successfully create modern wines of character and quality that are regularly given awards at international events.
La Prendina
The vineyards of this estate are in the hills south of Lake Garda and are owned by Luciano Piona of Cavalchina. With a local climate influenced by the lake it is ideal for making soft accessible wines that represent good value for money.
Cavalchina
Cavalchina effectively created the wine of Bianco di Custoza in the early 1960s when they were the first estate to sell their wine as Custoza. An historical vineyard as part of the famous Battle of Custoza was fought on this soil in 1866.
Canevel
When Caramel, a Treviso wine merchant, realised that he could not find a Prosecco of a quality he was happy with he decided to make his own. They chose Valdobbiadene as the best region for prosecco grapes and now their own vineyards produce most of their requirements.
Medici
This family owned winery near Bologna in Northern Italy produces characterful wines, including proper Lambrusco, as it should be made. They are also responsible for excellent value Castelli del Duca range of varietals from the hills around the medieval town of Piacenza.
Castello della Paneretta
A rather dormant winery in the past Paneretta has been recently revived by new owners and is now making wines of undisputed quality. The focus of their wines is on the traditional style of Chianti but made with modern techniques.
Santa Barbara
The Marche region on Italy’s Adriatic coast is something of an undiscovered treasure. With estate such as Santa Barbara one can see why, most of its wine is from its own or rented vineyards and it makes a range of highly acclaimed wines.
Mottura
Organically grown local grapes characterise this estate and its wines. This approach means that porcupines, sensitive animals, can often be seen on the estate and have been made into a symbol of the winery.
Casale Marchese
Frascati is undoubtedly capable of producing wines of great character and style and Casale Marchese shows how it can be done when the best clones of the permitted varieties are used and careful selection is made in the winery.
Conti Zecca
Whilst Conti Zecca is not a new estate, the family have been making wines since the 16th century; it is amongst the leaders of the modernist school that has brought a fresh character to Puglia’s wines. It was listed amongst the Italian Greats in a recent edition of Decanter magazine.
Ferrari
Ferrari, founded over 100 years ago, has established itself as the most quality conscious producer in Italy of metodo classico sparkling wines, regularly winning awards. They are a benchmark for any producer of serious sparkling wines and particularly the fabled Giulio Ferrari Riserva del Fondatore.
Donnafugata
A family owned and run winery it is one of a growing number of Sicilian producers that have realised the true potential of their vineyards and are now making great wines to justify that potential.
